«Golden autumn» - symbol of Russian nature. Polenov has managed to pass beauty of autumn, as anybody another in Russian art.
The wide picture of a nature opens to eyes of the spectator. The river quietly will roll the transparent light-blue waters. Its high coast passes in slightly hilly plain extending up to the horizon. The hills depicted by smooth, fluid lines, gradually descend on no and disappear in light-blue have given. Only small part of this plain gets in a field of sight of the artist - hills, the trees and river appear by the accidentally cut off frameworks of the staff of a picture. Due to what, the spectator can mentally continue the image, imagine all kind as a whole and feel infinity of the meadows, embodied by the artist.
The landscape by Polenov with its quiet and wide space, abundance of light, air, smooth, fluid rhythms of lines of a relief of district counterbalanced composition makes surprisingly calming impression. It is harmoniously combined with a condition of the represented nature. There is a transparent and clear autumn which has slightly gilt a coast of the river Оки and is restrained shining by the silent beauty.
